Poster HANS ANDERSEN - 1995

Hans Andersen was born in Odense, Denmark, on April Fools Day in 1805, was the son of a shoe maker. Coming from a poor background his limited education was a charity school. At the age of eleven his passion for writing had produced a variety of plays, novels, poems and, of course, fairy stories. At seventeen he returned to school, going to a junior school run by Rector Simon Meisling. Six years later he passed his university entrance examinations.

His first fairy tales appeared in 1835, and he continued to publish a small group every Christmas, there are 156 in the collected edition published in 1874.

Hans Andersen is a musical in two acts by Tommy Steele and Beverley Cross. Lyrics and music taken from the film score and other works by Frank Loesser. Additional songs by Marvin Laird.
